The Final Delta MD88/MD90 Retirement Flights to Blytheville AR

One June 2nd, 2020, thirteen MD88s and one MD90 were retired by Delta and flown to what is supposedly their final resting place of Blytheville, Arkansas. These were the last of Delta's original fleet of over 180 of the two types to be removed from service. The MD88 entered service with Delta in 1988 (the first was delivered in December of 1987) as the MD82, but along with the next 7 deliveries, was converted to the MD88. Delta eventually took 112 more of the aircraft. The MD90 was first delivered to Delta in 1995, and through various secondhand acquisitions saw the total fleet number reach over 70, though no more than 65 ever saw active service. These two types served Delta well for over 32 years, and might have gone well into 2021 if not for the COVID19 pandemic.

Video notes: I made the mistake of capturing one arrival (N907DE) with stills only instead of video; please forgive me for this lack of judgment. Apologies for that and for the unsteadiness; I blame it on being on top of a flimsy WalMart ladder in mud :)
