The Final Run of Soo Line 2719

On September 14, 2013, 462 Pacific, Soo Line 2719 ran the last trip of its excursion career before the FRA 15year certificate expired. It ran from Duluth, Minnesota up to Two Harbors, Minnesota, and return.

DMIR 316 assisted in Two Harbors, moving around the train and helping push up the grade during the departure.

The quality of this video often changes during the video, as I used different cameras as my primary camera failed, so there are scenes from iPhone & Nikon cameras.

That last scene (black & white) was an extra from Palmers and added some effects.

Also note, 2719 had a different headlight than usual (a DMIR headlight from D&NE 28, ironically 2719's successor on the NSSR) and had one side of driving rods repainted, this was for the previous week ("Railfan Weekend"), where 2719 was briefly painted as DMIR 403, apparently the museum didn't have time to revert the changes so 2719 wasn't quite itself. 2719 also had American Flags attached for the final trip...

Soo 2719 is now on display in the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. At the time of its last run, ownership disputes led the museum to restore a 280 from their collection (D&NE#28) instead of 2719. Soo 2719 is in museum ownership now, but its operational future is unknown.
