I really can't talk about groundwork enough, it is the defining training and education that you can impart on your horse that will keep you and your horse safer and happier. Groundwork is limitless too as you can do every exercise at different speeds, in different environments with different obstacles and all kinds of things to acclimate your horse to. Good groundwork skills can improve your relationship in so many ways and make things like leading from one place to another or getting in a trailer a far more peaceful process.

In this video I talk about the first three basic steps of groundwork that I believe you must have. I will reference this video in other videos and this sets the groundwork for all other groundwork and saddlework! I can genuinely say that if you can master this, get more out of your horse than you can imagine and you and your horse will be safer for it.

The three things I talk about and demonstrate in this video are having your horse be with you. Without this, you can't get the rest, so this is first. The second is to get a direction movement. In this case I demonstrate a circle around me. The third movement is the "one rein stop" from the ground.

From here we will move on to the back up, direction change and yielding while moving, but that's in the next video coming soon!
