Living St. Louis producer Jim Kirchherr recalls a 2000 trip from St. Louis to Hannibal, Missouri, aboard the Frisco 1522, a steam locomotive built in 1926 and retired in the 1950s. After sitting at the Museum of Transportation for years, the Frisco 1522 was restored and brought back to working shape by the St. Louis Steam Train Association, a volunteer team of engineers and enthusiasts. The trip to Hannibal brought steam engine fans from across the nation to St. Louis to both ride the train and to follow along in cars on highway 79 as chasers for the great views of the Frisco 1522 in action.
