Having spent a few hours at the nearby Stenson Junction for various rail movements, I flew the drone over the abandoned Willington Power Station, just South of Derby. Once fed by the MerryGoRound coal trains from the Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire coalfields, closure came in 1999. Most of the associated buildings were demolished in the early 2000's but the 5 hyperboloid cooling towers remain, many reasons for this include Peregrine Falcons nesting in them, too that they contain asbestos. Local residents have nicknamed the cooling towers "The Five Ladies of Willington.
