On September 3rd I made my way to the Adirondacks again to hike one of the most amazing day hikes NY has to offer, The Great Range Traverse. This was a glorious 22.5 mile, 9,100' vert hike, and it was a tough one, Make no mistake this hike will definitely test your body and your capabilities! This epic trek added 8 more high peaks to my 46er journey, landing me at 22/46. This was also one of the North East Ultra 8 hikes, putting me at 2/8 finished. This was definitely my favorite hike by far, with incredible views all day! This route had me starting out at The Garden, hiking the Phelps Trail past JBL and up Marcy for my firstever summit, and the first high peak of the day! Unfortunately, I didn't get the views I was hoping for on Marcy, but that just means I get to summit again for another chance! After summiting Marcy I made my way across the other 7 high peaks that make up the Great Range, Haystack, Basin, Saddleback, Gothics, Armstrong, Upper Wolfjaw, and Lower Wolfjaw before making my way to the end at the Roostercomb Trailhead! After crossing over Horse Hill, the clouds began to break, opening up a beautiful view of Haystack and Little Haystack foreshadowing an enjoyable climb to the summit! The trek to Basin was relatively quick and not much to speak of. Next up was the infamous Saddleback Cliffs, a class 2 climb, some would say 3, regardless, it is not as difficult as it's made out to be. The Gothics Cable route was the next notable mention, while they're not needed to climb, they definitely help. Gothics affords an aweinspiring view back towards Basin and its slides. Once over Gothics, I would say it's pretty smooth sailing to the end, off the range.
