The greatest dogfight of the First World War | Commonwealth War Graves Commission |

After First World War flying ace Captain Richard Maybery, MC & Bar was killed in action he was buried in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's Flesquieres Hill British Cemetery.

Three months prior Maybery had taken part in what has been described as ‘the greatest dogfight of the First World War’ against German ace Werner Voss.

Here former CWGC Intern Scarlett Watkins, who has an interest in aviation thanks to her grandfather being one of the first men to pilot a Mosquito during the Second World War, explains the story of those men from that dogfight.

Thanks to SA Smith Art, sasmithart.co.uk, for the use of his painting The Last Battle.
