So how historically accurate is the bounty reward system in RDO? That's the question we're diving into here. To find an answer I've dug into several newspaper archives from the 1800s, as well as scholarly journals I located on JSTOR's digital library. The main source used for this week's video was an article called 'Rewards, Bounty Hunting, and Criminal Justice in the West: 18651900', by Stuart H. Traub, in the Western Historical Quarterly, Vol. 19, No. 3 (Aug., 1988), pp. 287301.

Topics covered include: Historical bounty reward ranges; Historical rewards of 'Legendary Bounties' such as Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, John Wesley Hardin, & Jesse James; The historical price difference (or lack thereof) on living vs. deceased bounty targets; Reasons for the abundance of deceased bounties in history; Botching the end of Black Jack Ketchum; The historical inaccuracy of the mythical 'Lone Wolf' bounty hunter; Civilian perception of amateur bounty hunters; The purpose of the bounty system; Civilian successes in the bounty game; The complications with bounty payout eligibility; Loopholes in the bounty system; Ways to improve the current RDO bounty system, and potential sheriff role.

About Man vs History:
Man vs History is a YouTube channel that endeavors to combine both education and entertainment, specifically related to history. While the focus of the channel will expand beyond analyzing the historical accuracy of RDO, for the time being, there's still more quality videos to come on the topic.

For the past decade I've been history professor at the college level. The knowledge and skills I acquired through my educational journey and profession are put to work in the creation of these videos, allowing me to locate rare primary source materials, analyze them carefully, and coherently deliver the content in an entertaining and educational manner. For each one I conduct an immense amount of research, scouring American and British archives, books, and scholarly journal articles. Gratefully, my profession also grants me access to a network of historical experts & specialists including authors, university professors, and museum curators. I hope you enjoy the end result!
