The History of Egypt (4/5): A Military Coup Megalomania and Civil War

Follow
Cartoon History

In this video, Egypt recovers from the Akhenaten heresay by imposing a military dictatorship, there is renewed war with rival Empires in the North and predictably, the Pharaohs construct ever more monumental temples to their own greatness.

This is the age of the Ramesses, tales of Moses and the Red Sea, war, slavery and conquest and eventually, a civil war; grave robbers and the burning of ancient mummies. We also have the first workers strike in all recorded history!

A fascinating and dark tale. It is of Ramesses II that Shelley wrote his famous critique of absolute power, "Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"

I hope you enjoy the video!
