If you ask the average person what a video game looks like, odds are, they’ll probably describe something like Call of Duty. You got a guy with a gun shooting other guys with guns. A shooter. You look at nearly every tripleA studio, and it’s all they can seem to make. Call of duty, battlefield, Far cry, rainbow six, halo, Destiny, you get the picture. The shooter has become synonymous with studios like Activision, cause its the only thing they produce, other than misconduct allegations. Microsoft really bought these guys, huh. But, where did this genre come from, and why is it literally everywhere? Things weren’t always like this, so to answer that question, we’re gonna need to go back to the beginning.
