The History of Mainland Southeast Asia: Every Year

Follow
The Dragon Historian

This video presents the history of Mainland Southeast Asia from 20,000 BCE to 2021 CE. It showcases historical cultures, tribes, and states, classified by language family.

Major minority groups within the territories of premodern states are shown with a lighter shade of the dominant state’s color. In such cases, the boundaries of the dominant state are marked by thick outlines, while the name of the minority group is italicized.

Entities are labeled on the map with their most wellknown name, but shown in the key by their official or native names, with reconstructed contemporary pronunciation where possible. The reconstructed names of those who left no records of their own are based on Chinese records.
