In this dog oil painting tutorial I discuss how using the effect of broken colour in your artwork can make your paintings more interesting and energetic, and more realistic. I create this effect in the dog painting attached to this tutorial and show you how it is possible to achieve it in your own paintings.

cadmium yellow light (Rembrandt), cadmium red (W&N), yellow ochre light (Rembrandt), alizarin crimson (Gamblin), ultramarine deep (Rembrandt) zinc titanium white (Gamblin)

linseed oil, mineral spirits
