The Importance of Not Yelling When Arguing With Your Significant Other

Healthy communication in marriage is key to a healthy relationship, and so many couples resort to what I call primitive communication, which is yelling.

Negative effects of yelling:

Increases aggression and hostility between you as a couple
Increases defense mechanisms and emotional walls resulting in barriers for resolution
Doesn't get to the root of the problem (sadness, fear, frustration). Anger and yelling is a mask.

You are better than that (You are an adult with an ability to express yourself in a mature and healthy manner, and it is below you to have to yell). Use your words, be proud of yourself on how you express your feelings.

If you are being yelled at:

1. You don't deserve it (selfworth is more than that)

2. Stop taking the abuse (emotionally abusive to be yelled at. You wouldn't stand for that at your job or with your friends, so don't stand for it in your relationship)
