US civil rights hero and former US congressman John Lewis has died aged 80.

Lewis was one of the "Big Six" civil rights leaders, which included Martin Luther, and helped organise the historic 1963 March on Washington. Lewis was the last surviving speaker fro the march.

The veteran Democratic politician announced in December that he had been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer.
