Rexs Hangar

The Avro Avian was a light aircraft that set numerous records in the 1920s and early 1930s, particularly solo flight records. It was developed by Avro in the hopes of cutting into the emerging civil light aircraft market. It first made its appearance at the Lympne Light Aircraft Trials, and not long after that it became famous for carrying Herbert Hinkler on the first solo flight from England to Australia. It was also the plane that Amelia Earhart used for her first recordsetting solo flight, and it completed the first solo crossing of the Tasman sea.

The Avian was never a huge commercial success, being overshadowed by the De Havilland Moth. But its exploits should not be forgotten.
