Cutting Chai is about a day in the life of Latika, a dissatisfied woman in her early 40s, who ends up reevaluating all her choices in life thus far. Her unfulfilled dream of being a novelist haunts her constantly. Her frustration at being caught in the humdrum of marriage and motherhood amplifies on this day that she has to attend the book launch of a past mentor & boss who had always seen great potential in her. As Latika waits at CST Station for her husband Danny to accompany her, she analyses all the reasons for not having achieved her goals. At the top of her list is Danny, who has the irritating habit of showing up late for everything in their lives. As she waits, while trains come and go, people leave and arrive; Latika's bittersweet memories wash over her, and her mind plays tricks on her. Latika imagines what her life could have been, with several 'what if' situations thrown into her fantasies. She comes to understand that questioning her past decisions or her relationship with Danny is futile, the answers all lie within her.
