Before it was even published in 2006, historian James Swanson’s book Manhunt: The 12Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer attracted the notice of Hollywood. After several prior attempts to adapt the nonfiction thriller for the screen, the first two episodes of the sevenpart Apple TV+ miniseries Manhunt finally premiered on March 15, with the subsequent five arriving weekly. Meet Swanson — a selfdescribed Lincoln obsessive — and hear about what moved him to write the book, what his role in its longgestating adaptation was, and how he came to be so obsessed with our mostadmired president in the first place.
