The MercedesBenz T 80 of 1939 was the automotive dream of the absolute world land speed record. The idea was brought to Mercedes by Worldrenown German auto racer Hans Stuck’s he really wanted a swing at the world landspeed record. So the idea was to take the world land speed record and he convinced MercedesBenz to build a special racing car for the attempt.

Mercedes agreed and the project was started in 1937. Interesting fact the project was Officially sanctioned by Hitler himself, why well Hitler envisioned the T80 as another propaganda triumph of German technological superiority to be witnessed by all the world, courtesy of German television. Now at the time the world record was held by George Eyston with the thunder bolt. Now the record stood at 357 mph or 575kmph. Now originally Mercedes hopped to reach 600 kmph but in 1939 John Cobb set a new record of 369mph or 595kmph. This meant that the 600Kmph target wouldn’t really be all that impressive, so the raised the target speed to a much higher 750 km/h (465 mph).

Now they never even attempted the record, but we will get into that later into the video. First lets talk about the car it self.
