As a Notary, you need to know the difference between common notarial acts in order to perform your duties properly. Learn more about the different types of notarizations here: http://bit.ly/CommonTypesOfNotarizations.
Types of Notarial Acts
00:18 Acknowledgments: Performed on documents controlling or conveying ownership of valuable assets. Such documents include real property deeds, powers of attorney and trusts.
00:42 Jurats: Performed on evidentiary documents that are critical to the operation of our civil and criminal justice system. Such documents include affidavits, depositions and interrogatories.
01:13 Oaths/Affirmations: The purpose of administering a verbal oath or affirmation is, again, to compel a client to truthfulness.
01:42 Signature Witnessing: The purpose of administering a signature witnessing is to certify that a document signer is who they say they are and that the signature was made by the signer.
02:15 Certified Copies: Confirms that a reproduction of an original document is true, exact and complete. This type of notarization is not an authorized notarial act in every state.
