It's not known who baptized the hill with the name of the Topo (mole), however, it is due to its elongated and spherical shape that resembles that of a mole, insectivorous mammal that lives underground. The tunnels inside it are mainly due to the mining work that existed in the southern part of the hill, where phosphorite was extracted.
