In today’s video, I talk to Jen Urezzio, the founder of Soul Language, as she interviews me about my thoughts relating to authenticity and showing up as the real me. We also go on to discuss how this applies in sales, and why some types of sales coaching can be unhelpful.

Nowadays, people often use social media to promote themselves or their products, wanting to increase engagement, create client relationships, and communicate with their audience. But how much of it is actually real? Behind the camera, are these people really that happy?

The truth is, what you see on social media tends to be because of social norms and social cues. It seems easier for people to conform to what others are doing, but there’s no authenticity to it.

Now, we all know that creating and maintaining client relationships is key to building your business and that can only happen if you gain client trust. With that in mind, it's important to have a genuine sales approach and just be REAL.

During a sales call, it’s vital that you show up as the real you and not the fake version of yourself.

In my experience as a businesswoman, it's much easier to sell when you have an authentic connection with the other person. That authenticity will also mean you're looking out for the best interests of your prospect, meaning you're not pushing too hard for the sale. The sale will come naturally if you're able to build client trust, and if your product or service is indeed valuable for the client.

Nobody likes being "sold to". If you're presenting yourself as the magic man with a magic elixir selling “magic”, guess what? Your clients will see through you!
