The Most Infamous Scandal In American Political History

Follow
Harold

Yes, a filing cabinet brought down Richard Nixon, you read that correctly. The filing cabinet in question belonged to Dr. Lewis Fielding, the therapist of Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel Ellsberg, and connected to Nixon by way of his Plumbers Unit breaking in to get dirt on Ellsberg from his file in the cabinet. This Unit would also later be responsible for the most prolific scandal in American history, the Watergate Scandal, and would spell the end of Nixon's presidency by 1974. Without Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, the Fielding Breakin wouldn't have happened, and by breaking into his filing cabinet, they committed themselves to continuing to do such acts, which would ultimately topple Nixon's government.
