Today you are going to learn one of the most underrated bodyweight exercises for building strength in the abs (core) & shoulders.

Some of you have probably seen this move before, however it’s not that popular & I rarely see many people actually performing it..

It is one of the best bodyweight exercises for getting massive core & shoulder strength.

Also if you have the goal of getting advanced calisthenics moves such as the front lever & back lever, this move will be perfect for building the strength & technique for those feats.

The exercise is called skin the cat.

My brother and I first performed this move when we are in grade school just messing around on the monkey bars ha but started taking it more serious in our late teens & early twenties.

During that time we trained & worked for with the Lone Star Circus in Dallas under eighth generation circus artist, Fanny Kerwich.

Moves like skin the cat were used regularly during our conditioning and fitness training to build strength for our performances.

In fact, when my brother and I auditioned for the Las Vegas Cirque show “La Reve” this was the exercise they used for the strength portion of the audition. My brother and I passed the strength & acro portion of the audition but failed the dancing choreo portion ha.

We were pretty bad dancers at the time.

However, this just proves how important of an exercise skin the cat is.

If you are not adding this exercise into your condition, start this week so you can…

Increase pound for pound strength.
Build your abs & core.
Improve flexibility in your shoulders & hip hinge.
Gain the foundation for moves such as the front lever & back lever.

Now the advanced versions of this move will be hard to master. Don’t feel bad if you can not get it right away.
