Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS and Gestapo, believed like most in the Nazi high command in the supremacy of the Aryan race. However, unlike most, Himmler devoted resources and manpower in searching the world for evidence to "prove" his theories. He surrounded himself with cranks and pseudoscientists, occultists and mystics... anyone who said they could provided insight into this fantasy reality.

Himmler believed that ancient myths were real. He believed that Thor's Hammer was in fact an ancient superweapon that not only provided proof of ancient Aryan's superior abilities but also could be found and used during WW2. He also believed the same regarding the Holy Grail.

This led him to employ those who thought they could find it. Between 1935 and 1936, one Otto Rahn was inducted into the SS and paid to search for the grail.
