I really wanna upload more, but hey here's a short list of gaming representation in media. Also sorry for bad audio.

Intro:
So with the release of Cyberpunk Edgerunners on Netflix this is technically the third time that a popular video game has been adapted into a spinoff series. There was Arcane that within its first week became the highest rated show on Netflix, and while the Witcher doesn’t really count as a direct video game adaptation, they both draw inspiration from the same source so I’m counting it. All three are wildly successful and definitely feels like a breath of fresh air in comparison to the competition like Disney’s constant need to recreate beloved childhood characters in the most soulless way possible, or Marvel crapping out more superhero content faster than a constipated man on laxatives. Even though we’ve been constantly clowning on Netflix recently for releasing terrible movies and original series’, these shows do prove that they can still produce something of high quality despite their terrible executive decision making.
And with the success of these spinoffs there’s an interesting phenomena that happens that I like to call the Netflix effect. What this is is when there’s a successful adaptation of a game in the form of another medium of entertainment, such as shows, movies, or books, the game that inspired said entertainment sees a huge boost of players. Normally, if this was a one off thing I wouldn’t find it worth talking about, but considering that the biggest MOBA in the world League of Legends and 2015 game of the year the Witcher 3 both found themselves having a spike in player count after their shows came out, I think it’s something worth looking at. I find it especially interesting since the Witcher adaptation was based more on the original stories that inspired both, but the games were the ones that were impacted the most after seasons 1 and 2 were released. But, we already know this of course, after all these shows only came out within the past 2 years. What I want to do is look at older examples to see if they fit this criteria and if my hypothesis is actually valid. Let’s begin.
