The Oxford Word of the Year 2023 is very strange!

The word of the year for 2023 has just been announced by Oxford Languages.

What is the Oxford word of the year contest and how is it decided?

It is usually a new word that has become more and more popular during the year.

The Oxford Word of the Year is a word or expression that we can see has attracted a great deal of interest over the last 12 months. Every year, candidates for Word of the Year are debated and one is eventually chosen that is judged to reflect the ethos, mood, or preoccupations of that particular year and to have lasting potential as a word of cultural significance.

In this video, I tell you the word that was voted word of the year for 2023.

I also play you an audio clip of an interview with a British actor using the new word and then I give you the opportunity to guess what it means.

Finally I explain how the word was formed and I give you the meaning / definition.
