The Bhate siblings can easily be role models for other children of their age: they are eloquent, dedicated to academics, and pursue and excel in a host of sports and extracurricular activities. What is inspirational about them is that they are both recipients of bilateral Cochlear implants. Maithili, now 15, was implanted at the age of 18 months. However, her parents realised that it was late, as it is difficult to get a child to develop speech once she is around 2 years old. Hence, they did not delay in getting Maithili's younger brother Samanyu checked, who was diagnosed with hearing loss when he was only 1 month old.
