The progress of civilization. In the Stone Age, stone was all there was. Around 3,000 B.C., humans used copperbased alloys to make tools. This was what we refer to as the Bronze Age. The Iron Age was the next step in the progress of civilization. In 1870, John Wesley Hyatt created celluloid, the first plastic. Leo Bakeland, who was 7 year old at the time, eventually created what he called Bakelite, the first completely synthetic plastic. Then came nylon, polyethylene, and on and on. This eventually led to what was the toughest of all fibers, Kevlar. Find out where Mr. Harvey is leading us to in this episode of "The Rest of the Story."

It was just over 100 degrees when I filmed this episode, which caused the camera to overheat and struggle to keep in focus. For this irritation, I offer my apology.
