Rheinmetall and Elbit Systems successfully conducted a live fire demonstration of their automated 155mm L52 selfpropelled howitzer. The aim is to provide Western militaries with a new and advanced wheeled longrange howitzer, countering the Russian superiority in terms of indirect fires. A range comparison highlights the significant challenge faced by western armies in tube artillery, with the Russian 2S35 KoalitsiyaSV surpassing 70 km while the PzH 2000, one of the most advanced western systems, falls short at just over 30 km with a boat tail munition and under 40 km with a base bleed round. The demonstrated, completely robotic howitzer represents a significant step forward in bridging this artillery range gap.
