The second step to strengthening your neck extensors | The MSK Physio

While the head and neck can move together they can also move in separate directions. It is important to have this dissociation between the head and neck as it gives us more options for seeing our environment and thus acting on it! This is where the neck extensors come in. They can move the neck backwards while the flexors, move the head forwards.

Your spinal erector muscles are responsible for many movements, but mostly for controlling forwards and backwards movement. Think touching your toes and being able to look at your shins or bending backwards to look at the sky. If you have had a neck or thoracic injury you may have lost some of the flexibility and strength to do one of these movements.

This exercise will help you regain that function :)
