In this video I explore with you the secrets within the casket of Holy Roman Emperor Henry VII, who died in 1313. After a short and turbulent reign spent mostly in Italy, he died in rather mysterious cirumstances, perhaos poisoned. He was was buried in the Duomo in Pisa, where he was given a lavish tomb and where his remains are still interred. In 2013, 700 hundred years after his death, scientists opened the tomb and his casket. As well as containing his skeletal remains which shed light on an unusual medieval postmortem burial practice, they contained a series of important grave goods.
