The Ship That Sank Twice: HMS Bounty

October 2012 and off the coast of North Carolina an unusual disaster has played out. Rescue helicopters have captured a terrifying but extremely rare sight. The remains of a battered and broken 18th century style sailing ship rolling heavily in the big seas. At her stern is the name Bounty. This was no ordinary ship in her time she was a movie star a beloved museum vessel built in 1960.

In this twopart collaboration with the channel Brick Immortar we’ll explore the design and construction of these unique vessels their reasons for being. We’ll learn about what happened to the original Bounty in 1789 and the dramatic series of events that inspired Hollywood to create a replica in 1960 and then we’ll learn about the tragic fate of the replica as Sam from Brick Immortar analyses the final voyage in forensic detail.
