The Shoe Fire is burning in a very remote part of Shasta County, in Northern California. The fire has burned about 2 square miles, in the area between the Pit and McCloud Rivers, north of Shasta Lake.
This fire provides a good launching point for talk about landscapescale fire management, and some of the major obstacles we face in using fire to restore and maintain the resiliency of California's wildlands.
