In 2004, Quiznos created a series of commercials starring little creatures called the Spongmonkeys. Today we take a deep dive into the story of the Spongmonkeys, one of the weirdest commercials in the history of weird commercials. We will hear the story straight from their creator, Joel Veitch of rathergood, as he retells how this bizarre animation was ripped from his drunken psyche and originally turned into a flash animation called "We Like the Moon" before becoming the cursed commercial we know today. Known to some as the "Quiznos rat commercial", or the "Quiznos hamster commercial" (the species of these fuzzy little freaks is still unclear) this weird ad has seared itself into the collective subconscious of an entire generation of Americans. It's about time we talked about it.
