The launch of Final Fantasy 16 arouses the curiosity of fans, whether they are RPG players or not, for a series with over 30 years of history. This is the perfect time to discover or revisit previous chapters. Final Fantasy XII is definitely my favorite RPG and why not say, my favorite game. That doesn't mean I think it's the greatest game of all time, I know its problems and I want to talk about not just the game, but the whole story of how it was made, its influences and especially its reception and legacy. And that starts long before the launch of this RPG. For that, we need to go back almost a decade before reaching 2006, back in 1997, when Final Fantasy Tactics, the series' beloved spinoff, captured the hearts of fans and marked director Yasumi Matsuno's initial involvement with the franchise.
