In this video, the Toyota 2GRFE 3.5L V6 engine is taken apart to see what's inside and how it works!

The GR series of engines has been in production for almost 20 years and is still in production today. It has built a reputation for being powerful, smooth and reliable as it is used across Toyota's lineup but unfortunately may succumb to the movement towards more efficient 4 cylinder turbocharged engines soon.

The 2GR features dual over head camshafts with variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust system and a very complex lubrication system comprising of oil passages that flow from the oil pan all the way up to the valve covers. In this video we cover the common failure points on the 2GR engine, including the VVT oil lines, water pump and timing chain cover leaks.

The engine from this video was from a 2013 Toyota Camry V6 that had a failed water pump. The engine overheated causing the headgasket to warp and coolant and oil to mix.
