The Red Barn Murder occurred in 1827 in Suffolk, England, when Maria Marten was killed by her lover, William Corder. They had planned to elope, meeting at the Red Barn near her home, but instead, Corder shot and buried her in the barn. Maria’s stepmother later had dreams about the murder and urged her husband to search the barn. Maria’s body was found, leading to Corder’s arrest. He fled but was caught, tried, and convicted. Corder was hanged in 1828. The case became infamous due to the grisly nature of the crime, the supernatural element of the dream, and the widespread media coverage, making it one of the most sensational murders of the 19th century.
