In this public talk at the Theosophical Society, I explore the Twelve Labours of Hercules as a spiritual path, drawing primarily on the work of Alice A. Bailey. The labours of Hercules represent the path of atonement for sin. During the labours, the lower aspects of one's nature are gradually mastered until one is transformed into a 'World Saviour'.

The story of this transformation is told in the form of an allegory of the Sun (representing our inner Divine nature) travelling through the 12 signs of the zodiac, from the first impulse to act in Aries to the final emergence of the servant of humanity in Pisces, the sign of the Saviour. Each of the 12 labours represents one of the signs of the zodiac, with each initiation carrying its own unique lesson.
