The University of Melbourne is a public research university located in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 1853, it is Australia's second oldest university and the oldest in Victoria.
Melbourne University is home to more than 52700 students from 130 countries. The university has one of the highest admission requirements in the country, with the median ATAR of its undergraduates being 94.05.

In the QS World University Rankings 2024, the University of Melbourne was ranked 14th worldwide and 1st in Australia. The university is ranked highly in law, education, accounting and finance, social policy and administration, sociology, environmental studies and linguistics.

The university’s main campus is located in Parkville which is about a 15–20 minute walk north of Melbourne’s CBD. There are a diverse range of cafés, two sport centers, five university libraries, a bank branch, Australia Post parcel lockers, a bike shop, a boutique supermarket and a small pharmacy located on the Parkville campus. The campus is located within a broader knowledge precinct, which encompasses eight hospitals, and many other leading research institutes.

The university has three other campuses in metropolitan Melbourne at Burnley, Southbank, and Werribee. The Burnley campus is where horticultural courses are taught. Performing arts, visual arts, film and television, and music courses are taught at the Southbank campus. Veterinary science is taught at the Werribee campus.

The University of Melbourne is divided into nine faculties, which encompass all major departments of both research and teaching. They are Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, Melbourne Law School
Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and Faculty of Science.
