This is the story of, like the title says, an unmannerly tiger who doesn’t follow the laws of nature by wanting to eat a monk who saved him from hunters. Tigers in Korea were prized for their fur and their organs were used in the making of traditional medicines. The tiger is found in the foundational myths of Korea, the Samguk Yusa as well as the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. They were both feared and revered. They were thought to be the servants of the mountain guardian spirits.

I’ve always been interested in folk tales from around the world and since I have been focusing on Korean history, I have decided to start a new series on Korean Folk Tales.
