Just about every US aircraft designer in the 1930s tried their hand at building fighters for lucrative home and export markets.
Some became great successes. Most...not so much.
The Vultee P66 Vanguard falls somewhere in the middle. Actually getting into production, it was delayed by circumstance and was well past any prime it would have had by the time it got into action.
