The World at MIT: Hashim Sarkis

Follow
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Hashim Sarkis knew his calling early. He loved art and the way buildings looked and fit together and remembers that, even as a preschooler, he wanted to design them. Seeing photos of MIT’s “beautiful modernist buildings” in an architecture history textbook in Beirut was his first introduction to MIT, where he is now Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning.

“The World at MIT” videos underscore MIT’s distinctive nature as a community that is at once profoundly American and deeply connected to the world. In brief, threeminute interviews, faculty members recount the experiences and circumstances that drew them here and how and why they came to adopt MIT as their professional home.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is an independent, coeducational, privately endowed university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to advance knowledge; to educate students in science, engineering, technology, humanities and social sciences; and to tackle the most pressing problems facing the world today. We are a community of handson problemsolvers in love with fundamental science and eager to make the world a better place.

The MIT YouTube channel features videos about all types of MIT research, including the robot cheetah, LIGO, gravitational waves, mathematics, and bombardier beetles, as well as videos on origami, time capsules, and other aspects of life and culture on the MIT campus. Our goal is to open the doors of MIT and bring the Institute to the world through video.
