In 2021 a recordbreaking amount of cocaine has been seized in the Dutch harbour of Rotterdam. Every day, so called ‘collectors’ are arrested; young criminals who fetch the drugs from the shipping containers.
Danny meets up with two ‘collectors’, who regularly retrieve cocaine from the containers. They claim to have fetched an amount of drugs worth millions of euros. To do so, they work side by side with insiders, people who work at the harbours’ terminals or customs. “It’s sheer impossible to collect the drugs without the help of an insider.”
Andy Kramer, owner of a container terminal, tells Danny how criminals work their way inside by bribing or threatening his staff. “It would cost hundreds of thousands of euros to safeguard our business. And my staff gets approached anyhow, even at their homes.”
