These were not good years for GM. The accountants had run amok, and all the GM divisions suffered a bunch of badgeengineered cars competing as much with each other as they did the competition. The styling was bland at best, and it was tough to tell one from another.

That styling similarity couldn't be said about the 1991 Caprice Classic, which replaced the very popular 19771990 model that also sat on the aged BPlatform. It utilized ultra rounded edges everywhere, and somewhat unappealing (at least to me) integrated skirts over the rear wheels. It was definitely controversial, and a redesign was rushed though 1n 1993 to make the styling more neutral, and to replace the anemic engine choices with more potent and modern V8s.

Love it or hate it, this Caprice, and its Cadillac, Buick and Oldsmobile counterparts, were the last bodyonframe GM cars made in the traditional American style. After 1996, if you wanted a GM full frame, you had to buy a truck.
