When I first heard that you could monetize your YouTube channel and make money from ads placed on your videos, it got me thinking this could be lucrative. However, since monetizing my channel and reviewing the performance, it was a completely different story.

You have to have a LOT of subscribers on YouTube to earn any significant ad revenue. But if this is your goal, you need to understand your Revenue Per Mille (RPM). RPM or Revenue Per 1000 views, is the metric that YouTube channels’ monetization performance is based on.

So if you are monetized, or about to be monetized, it’s a good exercise to go through and understand the RMP for your channel and specific videos.

Today, I share:

1. What RPM is and why creators need to understand it.

2. How to calculate the RPM for your channel and individual videos.

3. What I found out from monetizing my channel and reviewing my performance.

4. And a whole bunch more…

RPM can vary drastically depending on your niche, the content you create and the style of video you publish. So, understanding what affects your RPM will help you make decisions on what future content to create if you choose YouTube monetization as your channel's focus.

Enjoy the process, no matter the outcome.
