The ‘LOVE’ in Switzerland ’part of the official‘ LOVE LIFE campaign, questioned nearly 30,000 people, ages 18 to 64, during a representative online survey.

The average man had had sex with seven people and the average woman one less, according to the study. Last year, the average for men was 2.1 and 1.5 for them.


Nearly a quarter of the men said they had slept with more than 20 people in their lifetime, as did 14% of the women.

The study published by the Sotomo Research Center explained that the difference in the figures between genders is explained by the phenomenon, almost exclusively male, of paying for relationships.

Men indicated having had intercourse with an average of seven people and there was no great difference between women, differences were observed between urban areas, with an average of 8.1 couples, and rural areas (5.6). The canton of Basel City, the only completely urban one, registered an average of 12.3.

Frenchspeaking Swiss said they woke up to 7.1 different partners, a figure "significantly" higher than the 6.1 reported in Germanspeaking Switzerland and the 5.8 in Italian.
