If you want to find old places to metal detect in particular really old ones from the 1800s and 1700s you have to go way out into the woods. Today we go exploring here in New England in search of a cellar hole that is a couple of miles out in the hills. There are no roads and no trails ! we have to bush wack and find our way there by reading the land. We will be looking for signs of people living here and doing things a long time ago like land clearing, stacking rocks to make stone walls and improved land from clearing and farming. The cellar holes are the old foundations where back in the colonial days they built their houses on top. Well today we found a cellar because of the big chimney stack that was made out of big rocks and still in a pile.
