On Friday, June 7, the Michipicoten departed Two Harbors, Minnesota with Taconite pellets and a crew of 22. Normal trip. Until disaster struck.
The Michipicoten is a 72 year old vessel having been built in 1952. The ship measures 698 feet in length, 70 feet in width and 37 feet in depth with a maximum carrying capacity of 22,000 tons.
