Thunor | Thor and other Indo-European Thunder gods

Story Crow

The Thunder God has many names.

Thunor of the Anglo Saxons. Thor of the Norse and Scandanavian peoples and the tikings. Thunoraz or Donar of the Ancient Germanic and Teutonic races.

In the mediterranean we have Zeus and Jupiter.

The Slavs and Baltic popes have Perkunos and Perun.

The ancients Celts of Gaul had Taranis, the Hittites had Tarhuna and the pagan Irish had the Dagda.

The Vedic peoples of India had the god Indra.

All these storm gods and sky gods and thunder gods. Part of an early Indo European pantheon that seeded a multitude of other later European, Anatolian and Indian deities?

A god of rain, of lightning, of hammers, axes, clubs, of fertility, and virility, a slayer of the primordial serpent of dragon, a defender of man and gods, a sky god, father and king.

This is part art of a series tracking various deities through the forests of space, time and human civilisation as well the labyrinths of the collective unconscious.
