Thursday 10 PM Tropical Update: Hurricane Beryl upgraded to Category 3 may weaken over Yucatan

Chief meteorologist Chris Franklin says Hurricane Beryl upgraded to Category 3 and winds are back up to 115 mph.

Hurricane Beryl is headed toward Yucatan in more of the notorious locations such as Tulum, Cancun, and Progreso.

New information says that Beryl has upgraded. Winds are back to 115 mph, which does make it a major Hurricane Category 3.

Even after weakening near Jamaica and that wind shear, it never fell apart, and it wasn't expected. It was going to be a slow weakening and that's why we've always said the strength forecast is so difficult.

As far as the track, the National Hurricane Center has been spoton with this one.

There may not be much weakening by the time it crosses the Yucatan. The Hurricane Center maintains it will weaken down to a tropical storm.

The only thing is, it's going to be moving very quickly over the Yucatan, all flat terrain. It isn't often that we see a lot of storms weaken dramatically over the Yucatan because it is not mountainous.

It is still not an issue for us as it will likely if it does become a tropical storm, restrengthen to a hurricane. But before making landfall again somewhere in north or south Texas or northern Mexico.

It is expected by late Sunday into Monday and then continuing north. It looks like what is left over will just dissipate over central Texas.

For us, we will be focused on daily rain chances, which will help to keep our temperatures down.
